Lawton Chiles Middle School will be hosting the Paws for a Cause 5K Race. The race is expected to take approximately one hour.
The run will start at 7:30 am and will be traveling from the north parking lot of Lawton Chiles Middle School, west to the roundabout and north onto Sanctuary Drive. Participants will turn right onto Heirloom Rose and follow road through the neighborhood until returning to the school.
Roads will only be closed as long as it takes runners to pass. Once the herd thins out a bit, runners will be directed to the sidewalks. OPD anticipates a 15 minute delay, at most. There will be 8 officers and a supervisor on-site so if there is an emergency and someone needs to leave, it will be handled appropriately. OPD also spent some time driving the route at 7:30 on a Saturday and counted fewer than 10 cars on the route during that time (and roughly 250 driveways along the route), so disruption should be minimal.
